How I Photograph Brand Activations

Brand activations are the most demanding events I shoot, because the room itself is the product. Here is the process, start to finish.

Scouting

Whenever the schedule allows, I see the space before the event, ideally at the same hour of day. I am looking for three things: where the light comes from once it is dark, which angles show the build the way the brand imagined it, and where the room will jam up once it is full. If a site visit is not possible, floor plans and photos from the build team get most of the way there.

The coverage plan

Every activation has a handful of frames that must exist: the hero shot of the build, the signage in context, the product in a real hand, the room at capacity, and whoever the client needs to be seen. Those get shot first and confirmed. Everything after that is the interesting work, and it happens knowing the mandatory list is already safe.

I shoot the empty room before doors. It takes fifteen minutes and it is the only chance to get the build clean, with no backs of heads in it.

Photo and video in one pass

Most activations need both. Running them as two vendors means two sets of eyes, two grades, and two people standing in each other's frames. JPX Studios covers both, so the recap film and the stills share a look and nobody is fighting for position.

Turnaround

Selects prepared for social media within 48 hours often go out the same night if the campaign is running live. The full gallery, typically 80+ edited images for an event, arrives within about two weeks depending on scope.

What you get

A gallery organized so it is usable: hero frames, detail, room, people. Named files, web and print versions, and vertical crops when the campaign needs them.
