Shooting the Don Julio x Peggy Gou Takeover at Lume Studios

The brief

Don Julio was taking over a Tribeca storefront and turning it into Gouvenirs, a neon souvenir shop built around Peggy Gou. The ask was full coverage of the night: the exterior build, the line, the room, the bar, the DJ, and the guests, with a tight set delivered same night so the brand could post while the activation was still live.

The constraints

Two of them mattered. First, the room fills fast and stays full, so anything that needs a clean sightline has to be shot before doors or in the first twenty minutes. Second, the storefront is the whole concept, and it only reads at night with the neon on and traffic moving behind it. That put the exterior work at the front of the schedule, not the end.

The lighting

Lume Studios runs an LED wall, the bar was under blue neon, and the crowd stood in neither. Three color temperatures in one room. Left on auto, the gallery comes back looking like three separate events.

What worked: expose for the neon so the shelves and the bottles keep the color the brand paid for, then bring faces back with a low power source close to the axis so it reads as ambient rather than flash. Outside, no added light at all. The storefront was already doing it.

The deliverables

A small curated set went out the same night, edited on a laptop between passes. The full recap gallery followed a few days later. Splitting it that way is the difference between content that runs during the moment and content that shows up after everyone has moved on.

Full story in the case study, and the room itself is covered in the Lume Studios venue guide.
