Paint with Pedro Baez

March 2024 marked Pedro Baez’s solo exhibition The Indivisible Atomo at Lume Studios in Tribeca, Manhattan. For Paint with Pedro Baez, Jenya photographed the prepared room, including projected flowers, blank canvases, materials and shared working areas. The coverage then followed Pedro and participants as they drew and painted, moving between individual hand gestures, groups sharing a drawing surface and the developing artwork. The projections could overwhelm the paper and paint, so Jenya adjusted exposure to keep both the participants’ hands and their marks visible. The delivered photo sequence brings together wide views of the room, close photographs of tools and technique, and candid images of people making work alongside Pedro.

JPX Studios documented the prepared space before the session, including the flower imagery, empty canvases, materials, and working areas. Once painting began, Jenya moved between Pedro Baez, individual gestures, groups sharing the surface, and the evolving pieces. Projection provided color and atmosphere but could overwhelm paper and paint, so exposure was adjusted to retain both the participant’s hand and the marks being made.
